Bees Ferry Fire Station #19
City of Charleston | Charleston, South Carolina

The new fire station on Bees Ferry Road is a modern facility designed to meet ISO response time requirements, equipped with a four-truck apparatus bay, police headquarters with a dispatcher’s office, and sleeping quarters for up to 12 personnel, along with a lounge and kitchen to support 24/7 operations. The building’s exterior, clad in metal siding and brick with a standing seam metal roof, reflects both functionality and a sense of local character.
Bees Ferry Road carries a deep historical legacy dating back to 1703, when the South Carolina legislature established a ferry crossing over the Ashley River as part of the route from Charleston to the settlement of Wilton. Though the original ferry no longer exists, its location near today’s railroad bridge marked an important crossing point, shaping the area’s development. In honoring this name, the new fire station on Bees Ferry Road symbolizes the spirit of service and connection that has historically defined this route, continuing a legacy of community support and accessibility within Charleston County.
