Kiawah Civic & Cultural Center

Town of Kiawah Island   |   Kiawah Island, South Carolina

The Town of Kiawah Island Civic and Cultural Center Addition will expand the existing Town Hall with a 12,000 sq ft facility designed specifically for cultural programming, performing arts, and community gatherings. The project features a 250–300 seat acoustically engineered auditorium, flexible meeting rooms, a foyer for art and events, and full backstage and service support. Site improvements—including parking, service access, and a loading dock—will ensure smooth operations. The design integrates seamlessly with the current Town Hall while prioritizing acoustical quality, sustainable materials, energy efficiency, and coastal resilience, all oriented to highlight Kiawah’s grand oaks and marsh views.

Developed by Caplea Coe Architects, H3, and a team of local engineers, the project blends national expertise with deep knowledge of Kiawah’s environmental and cultural context. A proposed Cultural Task Force, in partnership with the Kiawah Art Guild, will help embed local history and identity into the building through curated art and interpretive elements. Once complete, the Center will provide the island’s first purpose-built performance venue, offering high‑quality, accessible space for arts, culture, and civic life—strengthening community connection and celebrating Kiawah’s natural and cultural heritage.

Designed in association with H3.
