Morningside Middle School

Charleston County School District   |   North Charleston, South Carolina

This project involves the design of a new middle school to replace an outdated, undersized facility built in 1954. The phased plan includes limited modifications to Garrett Academy, which will serve as a swing space for two years during the demolition of the existing school and construction of the new facility.

The swing space was configured to meet the current program and space requirements with minimal modifications. Our team worked closely with school staff and the construction manager to reconfigure administrative offices, make minor classroom adjustments, and reallocate spaces for specialized programs. Coordination also included water access in science classrooms, updated signage, and maintaining existing security and facility systems. We also collaborated with SCDOT to finalize bus drop-off and pick-up logistics.

The new middle school is designed to serve 900 students and will feature instructional classrooms, band/chorus rooms, science labs, a state-of-the-art media center, cafeteria, gymnasium, locker rooms, administrative offices, and support spaces.
