JEWISH STUDIES CENTER ADDITION AWARDED USGBC COMMUNITY CHAMPION
December 05, 2019
Our design of the College of Charleston's Jewish Studies Center Addition was recently awarded USGBC's Community Champion award during their seventh annual Green Gala. The gala celebrates the green building movement across North and South Carolina, bringing together over one hundred green building advocates.
“The Carolinas Green Gala recognizes the triple bottom-line benefits of green buildings: people, planet and profit,” said Rhiannon Jacobsen, vice president, market transformation and development at USGBC. “From across the Carolinas, local leaders are collectively working toward greater resiliency and sustainability of our communities through green buildings, and the Green Gala gives us the opportunity to celebrate our collective successes while recognizing individual leadership and contributions.”
The Community Champion award was given to the Jewish Studies Center Addition to recognize the service-orientated organization serving the needs of the Charleston area. The addition to the center was awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold status, the world's most widely used green building rating system, for its use of sustainable design and innovative technology. The building incorporates water and energy saving aspects, sustainable building materials, use of natural lighting, smart technology in classrooms, kosher/vegan/vegetarian food options and compostable dishware and cutlery. The center houses the Jewish Studies program and Jewish community at the College of Charleston, and provides a sustainable and healthy facility to learn and serve the local community.
More information on the awards and gala can be found in this USGBC article.
NEW CAMP ROAD MIDDLE SCHOOL GROUNDBREAKING
December 07, 2018
Charleston, SC - At a ceremony last week, the Charleston County School District officially broke ground on the New Camp Road Middle School. The school currently resides on the campus of the former James Island Middle School, while the new school is being constructed on the former Fort Johnson Middle School property and will serve all James Island middle school students. The 137,000 sf school is designed for a maximum capacity of 1,200 students. The facility will include state-of-the-art classrooms, science labs, media center, cafeteria and gymnasium.
We are honored to have the opportunity to work with CCSD and within the James Island community to design a learning environment for the youth in Charleston. We excitedly await the completion of the school in the spring of 2020!
