Palmer Campus Addition & Renovation

Trident Technical College   |   Charleston, South Carolina

The Palmer Campus of Trident Technical College, which previously housed the C. E. Brown High School, lacked any type of main entry building. Our firm provided a design which provided a new identity to the campus, established an entry building to house administration facilities, a new media center, and renovation of another 25,000 square feet of existing space for computer and laboratory facilities. Specific to the site were two dominant smoke stacks which were visible from all locations of the campus. These smokestacks became the background for the entry building which included a tower form to play off the stacks in the background and establish an entry to the school. This project won the AIA Charleston Merit Award in 2003, and was given the Carolopolis Award from the Preservation Society of Charleston.
